Adventures in Eorzea, Entry 1

Cameron and I play Final Fantasy XIV Online so I decided I should start blogging about it. FFXIV is my first mmorpg. I went into it without knowing what I was doing. Thankfully Cameron is a 5 year WoW vet, so I had some back up. I never did understand how WoW players could get sucked into these games for hours on end. I didn’t understand it until I decided I wanted to try FFXIV. Six months later, I totally get it.

I started out as a healer and really thought I could be good at it. I was warned by Cam and a mutual friend of ours (whose already been playing for 2 years) that I was going to struggle. My first dungeon was the biggest blunder ever. The tank died twice and half the time I was running around in a panic. The guys couldn’t stop laughing at me, of course. Luckily, the tank was new too so they were very patient.

I noticed a lot of players in FFXIV are kind and usually pretty patient. It’s rare I come across an a jerk on my server. Most of the time I stuck with Cam and my friend while I tried to learn the ropes of being a healer. Some how, I made it all the way to Heavensward as a healer. I tried Scholar first. I remember the rush I felt fighting the first dragon as a scholar. It was a lot of pressure to heal and throw spells at dragon at the same time. I can’t say i was that good at it but some how I made it through without getting killed. I had so much adrenaline running through my body after that battle. It’s an addicting feeling. I was fighting right along side other players, working together to take down one enemy. It was awesome!

Halfway through Heavensward, I tried out Astrologian. Although, I did love it, I was starting to dislike being a healer. I switched to Summoner for awhile but I was getting tired of the long cool downs. I had my rotations down and I knew that was just how it rolls being a Summoner but I just didn’t like it. That’s when I decided to be a monk. My characters name is Khloe Dragneel so, why not, right? If you don’t know the name, “Dragneel”, just google “Fairy Tail”. Anyway, I went for it and was instantly happy with it. I quickly leveled the class up and finished the rest of the expansions as a monk. I even wear a glamour outfit that looks just like Natsu Dragneel’s. I don’t feel stressed playing this class like I did as a healer. I actually have a lot of fun now. Trying to be a healer was a bad idea. If your’e a newbie, don’t do it. LOL

This game is very rewarding and you feel like you are part of the story and part of that world. You talk and interact with the characters. You create bonds and you mourn when they die. Playing an MMORPG is like stepping away from the real world for a few hours and pretending to be this other person in this other world. You feel like you matter. I’m a shy person, not to mention socially awkward. This game makes me feel like I actually contribute to a cause, even if it is just a game. It’s a good feeling knowing your actions helped out someone else and that happens all the time in the game.

Now you can expect blogs of my adventures in Eorzea. If you play FFXIV, you can find me on the Leviathian Server. Cam and I have a guild called “Kelpie Tail” in the Mist Ward 9 of La Noscea. We’d love to make new friends so feel free to stop by if we’re online or leave a message in our inbox! We’re also accepting guild members. 🙂

The Ancient Magus Bride Mid Season Review

The Ancient Magus Bride is something that am particularly attached to. After the disaster of Worldend (I can’t even with the ending of that series -__-), I was bummed out that I didn’t get a decent romance for the season. Then I discovered The Ancient Magus Bride as soon as it started simulcasting and immediately started watching new episodes every week.

I LOVE this series so far. It gives a bit of a “beauty and the beast” kind of vibe although Elia’s personality is a lot more pleasant charming than the hot tempered grumbling beast of fairy tales. The opening of this anime is gorgeous and I watch it every episode without skipping it. I don’t skip most anime openings or endings because I tend to find entertainment value in them. The music is enchanting and you can almost feel the Chise’s emotions flowing through it, from despair to wonder. The opening vividly shows just what kind of impact Elias has on Chise’s life the moment he enters it.

The romance actually has developed faster than I anticipated but not in a way that felt rushed. They were both lonely wanting companionship and they quickly found it within each other. I love how different they are from each other because it balances the relationship between the two. Chise tends to make decisions based on how she feels while Elia’s bases them on logic.

I’m currently watching the dub and I’m pleased with casting choices. I’ve heard Brian Mathis’ voice in a fair share of anime and he’s pretty good at bringing out a character’s personality. He plays characters of this type very well which is probably why he tends to land these types of roles. I’m fine with that. Put people in their strong suits. I’m not familiar with Dani Chambers, but with as much dubbed anime as I’ve watched, I’m sure she’s been in something I’ve seen. I love her voice and what she brings to Chise’s tone and voice inflection. I think she does it perfectly and it suits the character. And then there’s the man whose in everything and he plays a character that just makes me laugh. There’s no way it’s a coincidence but if it is, then it’s a pretty hilarious one. If you’re familiar on who the top dogs of dubbed anime voice actors are, then you probably know I’m talking about Todd Haberkorn (huge fan). He plays Lindenbaum (or Lindel), who happens to be the care taker of dragons…DRAGONS. Makes me wonder if he’s fired up for the final season of Fairy Tail this September. XD Anyway, I love what he brings to this character. Although at first I tend to think of Natsu Dragneel every time I hear Todd’s voice, it never last long. After a few lines, his voice becomes the voice of the character he’s playing and then I forget this voice is also used for my favorite loud mouth dragon slayer. That takes incredible talent. Leave it to Todd to bring a lot to a side character without overshadowing the protagonists. Bravo. (I might be a tad biased).

According to online sources it looks like we’re getting 24 episodes. There’s 8 volumes of the manga released and from what I read it’s still ongoing (correct me if I’m wrong tho!). There’s so much mystery and so much unexplained, I just want to watch more and discover what happens between these two and the world they’re apart of. Have you been watching Ancient Magus Bride? What do you think of it so far? Let me know in the comments!

I finally have a blog schedule set up, although a bit loosely. I’ll be posting first impressions, mid season reviews, and end of season reviews instead of individual episode reviews. It’ll make it much easier to keep up since I do have to work 40 hours a week. LOL. Producing content doesn’t make us money just yet! If you wanna help us fix that, don’t forget to check out our Patreon!

Blogs are coming!

So sorry for the delay, I know I haven’t blogged in a bit! Things have been hectic so it was difficult to blog the past couple weeks. The dust is settling a little bit so I DO have blogs for Worldend, Attack on Titan, and My Hero Academia on the way! Again, sorry for the delay!

My Hero Academia Ep 26 Review

I’m excited for this new story arc that’s starting! I have read some of the manga but I haven’t read this arc just yet. Seems like Deku is gaining some publicity and its a little overwhelming for him; for all the students it seems like. I was excited to watch this episode because I knew they would be picking hero names (I did read THAT part in the manga!).

I love how Midnight was in charge of approving the names they picked out. She was really into it. Picking your name is an important part of a being a pro hero so I can see why its essential you pick out a good name. You don’t want a shitty name stuck to you for life that you can never escape from. Have I mentioned that I adore Bakugo? I loved how he got teased that pros were probably afraid to recruit him and his response was just priceless. LMFAO. I also want to add I really love Midnight’s outfit. Looks like a fun cosplay. Haha.

The hero names were hit and miss. Some of them were like WTF? and others were too long. I loved Froppy! That one was cute and totally fit her quirk. Red Riot is another one I really liked too. Those names were great. We wont talk about “can’t stop twinkling” -.- . Bakugo keeps wanting to add murder to his name. LOL Cam and I couldn’t stop laughing. The rest of the heroes seemed to nail their names. Many of them were typical while some were unique. Then there’s Shouto. LOL Well, I don’t blame him for just sticking with his name. Uravity was cute, too. Really loved it. It makes sense why Ida didn’t take his brother’s. It seems like his mental state is a bit unstable which usually isn’t good with any kind of super hero.

I loved that Izuku picked “Dekku” as his name! It’s what everyone already calls him anyway so it made sense. He wants to be his own person. I like how he grasped the name and turned it into something positive. Well, we all know that’s gonna piss off Bakugo. Haha. Surprisingly, Dekku got recruited! And by All Might’s former teacher no less! I’m looking forward to what’s going to happen next with all the heroes and their work place experience!

I like how Dekku has fit in nicely with his classmates. In middle school he was teased and made fun of constantly. He got laughed at constantly. At UA though he’s accepted by his classmates. They’re all friends. He’s not an outsider.

I’m excited to see how this story develops. I heard there’s a lot of character development for Bakugo, so I’m looking forward to seeing that since he’s my favorite! Did you watch this episode? What did you think of it? Let me know in the comments!

Worldend Ep 8 Review

Of course I loved this episode! Ctholly was still doing what she had been doing near the end of the last episode with cooking, cleaning, and supervising the younger girls. I can’t get enough of the relationship between her and Willem. It’s definitely a lot different from his relationship with the younger ones. Although, for the longest time, you couldn’t quite tell if he reciprocated those feelings or not. Sure, it was obvious he cared about her but we weren’t sure just how deep those feelings go. I kinda like romances that keep you guessing like that.

Willem’s interaction with his superior “technical officer” was amusing. I love how he handles personalities like that. *snicker* His reaction to the superior talking about the girls on that downed ship made my heart clinch a bit. His kindness and nurturing nature just makes my heart melt. He’s a wonderful character. It was a surprise to find out the survey team is after his home town. How crazy would that be to see your home town 500 years later?

It was so cute that Ctholly had been waiting for him. The way her face lit up when he showed up was adorable! She’s making sure she sticks close to him no matter what. I don’t blame her. I’d be doing the same thing. lol It’s not like he’s complaining much about the company anyway. I laughed so hard when she didn’t correct a clerk for calling them an engaged couple. Haha. Meanwhile, Willem looks mortified. He still didn’t complain much. She was so honest with him that she went with him because she just wanted to be around him. This is refreshing for honest feelings to be let out instead of the angst of keeping it to yourself!

So, the sword he spotted in that book during his meeting with his superior could help Ctholly’s disintegration. I really hope that will be the case. I just don’t want this to turn into an anime where one or both of them die. Anyway, I loved how honest he was in telling her that he was looking for it, that he wanted to help her. Since she woke up from the last disinigration, Willem has been increasingly more protective and watchful over her. That’s probably another reason he doesn’t complain about having her around a lot.

Totally didn’t expect her to say she was going to go with him when he leaves to find that sword. I couldn’t stop laughing. She totally got her way to. Haha. It was even funnier that the superior thought Ctholly was his lover. *snicker* The fact that Willem actually admitted he’d rather not be separated from her either really through me for a loop! I wasn’t expecting that much honesty. In most anime, the characters keep their feelings to themselves and you have to watch and experience their angst. Not the case here. There’s some angst but it’s not overwhelming. It’s obvious the two care about each other.

When Willem woke up in the library, only to sit up and have a kid fall of him, I couldn’t stop laughing. I love how that girl loves to sneak in a cuddle when he’s sleeping. It’s too cute. And OMG Willem’s confession! Ha! So Ctholly always had a chance but he’s keeping her at arm’s length. He didn’t really explain why. Not sure if it’s age or if it’s something else. Not quite sure. When he said “you tell her, I’ll end you”, his face was priceless.

Ctholly’s jealousy over Nephrin sleeping on the couch with Willem was pretty amusing. Of course there was nothing weird about that to begin with so it was funny to watch Ctholly make it out to be something dirty when it clearly wasn’t.

Nygglatho’s confession was not at all expected, given she’s a troll who would love to sink her teeth into him. LOL I also love how he asked to pretend he never heard any of that. Oh I don’t blame him. She’s far from his type anyway. At least right after that, we got a wonderful moment between Willem and Ctholly. She was so cute slowly walking up to him as he was staring up at the shooting stars. You could see how badly she just wanted to hold his hand. She was too scared to do it but Willem grabbed her hand. Of course I fan girled!

The dramatic moment of Almita falling from the roof really got my heart pumping. I was worried that would happen. We get to see Willem use that inhuman speed of his but it wasn’t going to be fast enough so Ctholly used her own power. I didn’t even know she still could but it was clear that she wasn’t suppose to try given Willem’s reaction when it was all over. He looked so scared and he even had tears in his eyes. I do love how he’s not afraid to show his emotions.

Now Ctholly has had another incident where she seems to see her previous self? Her hair is even more red now. I’m curious what Willem’s reaction will be in the next episode!

Did you watch this episode? What did you think of it? So far it’s getting better with each episode! Let me know what you think in the comments!

Kado: The Right Answer Ep 7 Review

Just when I was getting worried that this anime may not have good material to continue the story with, I get proven wrong. Inviting a media team into Kado wasn’t exactly that much of a surprise. I’ve seen enough science fiction where media always gets caught up in a close encounter some how. Well, I didn’t expect them to be offered an opportunity to alter their brains. That’s kinda scary thought if you ask me. I’m not sure if I’d be able to do something like that willingly. I fear I would have a panic attack. LOL

The device that gets presented to these men is suppose to alter the brains so that humans dont need sleep. I’m not sure how I feel about that either. I kind of like sleep. Haha Gonnou, Emi, and Utamaru get quite the experience. They get the chance to meet Yaha-kui zaShunina (god that’s a mouthful!). Gonnou didn’t hesitate to take up the offer and take the small risk. It was so trippy! All they did was stare at it. Just looking at it altered their brains. It actually startled me because I wasn’t expecting this scenario at all. Gonnou kept himself pretty well together dealing with that. I’m pretty sure I’d freak out. LOL Now they don’t need sleep anymore, I guess? The side effect of nausea didn’t look pleasant. -_-

Yaha-ku zaShunina’s explanation of the isotropic was interesting to wrap my head around. I love this idea of there’s different parts of us across different dimensions and once you’re aware of them, you don’t need sleep since you can have one of them sleep while the others stay awake. Wow. This anime really draws you in and makes you interested in learning more from Yah-kui zaShunina. It’s facsinating!

I enjoyed watching their experience at the festival with Yah-ku zaShunia. He’s definitely seem to humanize a bit more since reading books. I laughed when Shindo gave him a kubuki mask to wear and his response was “I’ll allow it”. LOL Tsukai looked cute in her kimono, despite her protests of how ridiclous she thought she looked. I loved her expression when Shindo told her she looked good. Cameron teased me when she made a pouty face because I apparently do something similar. Haha.

I’m not sure why Tsukai wants to send zaShunina back to the isotropic. What is her motivation? Now that anime is taking a turn. zaShunina hasn’t done anything wrong or threatened anymore so I’m not sure why she wants to do this. We’ll hopefully get to find out in the next episode! I’m very pleased with this anime. It’s very engaging. The animation is beautiful and the music is amazing. I hope we get a lot of episodes! Usually anime of this nature only gets about 13 but I’m crossing my fingers for 20 or more episodes.

Attack on Titan Ep 37

So much happened this episode. You’ll forgive me if I can’t keep up with all the character names. Haha. I’ll do my best to look them up for this blog so I don’t confuse anyone or sound silly.

Hannes’ death was inevitable to me. It just seemed like it would be to happy of an ending for this story if he didn’t die. That’s weird coming out of my mouth since I’m usually not into darker drama anime but this is one of the rare exceptions. It was heart breaking tow watch Eren witness another person close to him be eaten by a titan again. You could see how much it pained Mikasa to see Eren scream in grief. I did not expect the romantic moment between Eren and Mikasa but I was definitely happy to see it! I heard some people didn’t like it. I thought it was okay. It fell flat a little in some parts but it was forgivable to me.

I did not expect Eren to have the ability to control titans into attacking someone. That was a bit mind blowing for me. He couldn’t transform anymore and now he can control them. It seems to happen when his anger and the feeling of being threatened explodes and then suddenly the titans attack whatever is threatening him.

I forgot to add how much I loved the scenes of Historia fighting. It was the first time I’d ever seen her really do it and do it with purpose. It was well animated and got me excited to see more.

Seeing the man on top of the ape man’s shoulder was definitely a surprise. It’s already been proven that titan’s are of human origin. I’m curious if some grand scale war happened and the titan’s were used as weapons. That of course could turn out badly especially if they’re not sentient. I have so many theories running through my head and I’m debating on reading the manga. I already started on My Hero Academia so I have a feeling I’ll be happy I started reading it.
