Business Updates.

Well I haven’t written one of these in awhile! It’s our second month with our website and boy is it a challenge to keep up with the content! I fell behind for a bit there and I am sorry for that. I’m all caught up now and I’m going to work on staying on schedule!

Attack on Titan is over now so it’s going to have it’s Sunday Review slot replaced with something else. I have been debating on doing fan art once a week. I would do a black and white version and have the colored version available on our MyPatreon. I will even take on requests for specific anime characters. I struggle drawing American comics, but anime and manga, I’m your girl.

We didn’t get as many visitors this month so far, haven’t hit 200 yet. It’s a little disappointing but it’s only month two so I’m trying not to dwell on it. This type of business is slow to start. I am happy we’ve gained a couple followers this month though so that makes me happy!

I’m trying to come up with new content ideas for next month to try and get us more followers and traffic. I’m hoping my art will be a good start. I know Attack on Titan Reviews were on Sundays, so you’d think Fan Art would replace it on that day, but I’m going to move it to Fridays. Fan Art Fridays just sounds good. Haha. I’m thankful for those of you who participate and leave comments! I love discussing anime and manga, so I encourage more of you to comment! Also, if you have any suggestions for anime I should watch, let me know! I’m actually checking out Food Wars. I’ll be sure to give my first impressions of that one on Monday! I haven’t done any first impressions in a couple weeks and that’s mostly because I hadn’t discovered a new anime I felt worth watching or blogging about. Food Wars though, will get a fairly decent blog post. I have a lot to say about that one. LOL

Thankfully, the month aint over yet! We got “Castlevania” coming to Netflix which I can’t wait to check out that original anime! I’ve heard of the game so I’m fairly familiar with it. Cameron will be reviewing that one since he actually played the game as a kid so he can give a decent critique. I’ll probably review it too, though. Cam will be able to review as a gamer and I’ll review it as an anime fan. Our perspectives should be different so that should be some good content!

Well, thought I’d do a little update. Not a whole lot is going on, mostly playing the waiting game for Cam to get surgery and back to work. Once he’s back to work, I’ll have more time to dedicate to this blog and have even more content. Thanks to all of you who have stuck with us so far! Be sure to watch for the first of the month blog which will review the previous month and let you know what we have in store for July!

Business Updates

Thought I’d provide a little update on the progress we’re having so far with our blog! We’re up to 19 followers and we’re consistently getting traffic to our site every day. Each week we have more visitors so far. I’m aiming for us to have even more followers and visits in our third week! Cameron is working on a new series about older manga that will start on Thursdays so be sure to watch for that if you’re a manga fan. We’re on Twitter, Facebook, and Tumblr now.

Cameron is working on getting our first video vlog set up on our Youtube Channel which I’m excited for since it will be our first vlog! We’re limited on equipment but that’s why we set up our MyPatreon so if you’re interested in seeing more content be sure to become a Patron! We want to bring you all the best content since we do work for you!

My goal for the month of May is for us to reach 50 followers. If we do, in celebration I’ll draw a new art piece! I’ll even post a poll to see what you wall would like to see me draw. If you haven’t seen my work, be sure to check out our Art Gallery where you can find some of my fan art. Once business picks up, I look forward to getting a digital art pad to bring more art for you all to enjoy! I’ll have art available to purchase eventually too.

Fairy Tail…Why it’s AWESOME.

Talking about Fairy Tail or anything having to do with Fairy Tail is probably the best thing in the universe to me. I’m obsessed, it’s my favorite anime and always will be.

It’s funny how I even discovered it. I’d seen it on Netflix. It was suggested for me because I had been watching Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood (another masterpiece I love), but I never tried it for the longest time. I just kept thinking, “Whats with the dude with pink hair? Looks dumb.” Eventually, I caved back in 2014 and decided, eh, what the hell. Eventually I was hooked and fell in love with Natsu. Haha.

It was later that year that I picked up the manga, reading the chapters as they were posted online. The story is just fantastic as well as the characters. The story starts out very simple. Boy meets girl, girl gets dream, blah blah. However, you quickly discover it’s far from typical and definitely far from simple. Hiro Mashima was fantastic at making his character’s different from your typical tropes. For example, Erza is beautiful and talented, but good god she’s incredibly awkward in normal social situations. It’s the funniest thing to see. At first you think Lucy is your typical air-headed blond but quickly find out she’s actually very intelligent and good at problem solving. Despite her sexiness though, she’s clumsy as hell. My man Natsu has a hot temper, something that’s popular for characters in animes and manga. However, despite his hot temper, he’s incredibly kind, not to mention forgiving. He gives off the impression he’s a bit slow, until you see him adapt his fighting style in mid battle depending on what opponents he’s facing. Even if he can’t come up with a strategy he already knows, he’ll make it up as he goes.

Lucy – “When did you learn how do to do that move?”

Natsu- “Just now.”

One of things that can make an anime lose its audience fairly quickly, is fillers. Oh god those fillers. Bleach and Naruto are prime examples of that. Bleach is probably the best. I lost interest in that anime two years ago, even though I did like it. The fillers didn’t make sense, they started right in the middle of canon story arcs, and I heard how the manga ended wasn’t loved by fans either. I didn’t like how the author pitted popular ships between characters against each other to create drama. I’m not a fan of that story telling technique. Tends to get on my nerves. However, this is not the case with the two Fairy Tail fillers. We won’t talk about filler episodes, since there weren’t too many of those. The Infinity Clock arc seamlessly intertwined with the canon story line. Mashima also created that arc, too and didn’t hesitate to give us some major Nalu moments. I loved how the lack of celestial wizards in existence connects Yukino and Lucy. Sure, they connect in the manga without that arc, but the infinity arc made the bond more believable and special. There was nothing confusing about the arc. It wasn’t too long and it fit right between two canon arcs, connecting the Tenrou Island and Magic Games arc. I heard some fans didn’t like it but I absolutely love it. Could care less what they think. LOL The second filler arc was the Celestial arc that occurs after the magic games. I’ll be honest, it’s not one of my favorite arcs but it wasn’t horrible either. We had Nalu moments within this arc also. I loved how protective Natsu was over Lucy. Since the magic games, Natsu’s protectiveness of her increased quite a bit. Seeing her future self die probably created a bit of trauma for him. The idea of losing her terrifies him. Oh, my hearts melting. Gah! I praise Mashima for his great use of his fillers. They were well done and seamless between canon arcs.

Lets talk about that fan service. Fairy Tail is an ecchi. The fan service is equal for both genders. Natsu and Lucy both tend to strut around half naked. However, the fan service is done in a way that isn’t vulgar. The way Mashima draws the women is natural and beautiful. There’s nothing vulgar about the revealing clothes he creates for his female characters. It’s done in a way that you know he’s appreciating feminine beauty. The fact that Lucy always seems to lose her clothes cracks me up. It’s a funny gag that never fails to make me giggle. There’s some naughty bits of course with Lucy accidently sitting on Natsu’s face or her boobs in his face. Some part of her body always seems to land in his face. I love the fact it never makes him blush. Boobs, crotch, nudity…none of it phases him. He never comes across as a pervert either except the one time he covered Lucy’s breasts for her. That’s the one time I’m fairly certain Natsu knew exactly what he was doing. I know he aint that dense when it comes to the opposite sex. Prime example of that is when he’s telling Elfman and Erza that Lucy’s taking a shower, then asks if they want him to check on her. Takes him a second to realize why Elfman was telling he can’t do that, but when it clicks, he acts like any other heterosexual male. Haha.

I know some people seem to get frustrated with how slow the “romance” is developing between Natsu and Lucy. Here’s the thing though. Just because they ain’t making out and there’s no confessions of undying love, doesn’t mean it’s not there. They’re best friends. They don’t have to show constant affection like that to express they care for another. They have a deep bond and trust that developed over years of fighting together. They love spending time with each other, usually no matter what it is, Natsu just always wants Lucy around. If you’ve seen this anime, then you remember how he pouted throughout the Sakura Festival because Lucy’s was sick at home and couldn’t be there. She was on his mind the entire time. He sent a damn tree down the river for her. You don’t do that for a regular best friend. If that’s not romantic, I don’t know what is. See, my husband and I have a similar relationship. We’re affectionate at home but in public we’re best friends hanging out. Once in a while we may share a kiss in public but it’s rare. We don’t find the need. Personally, I love how Mashima has developed the relationship between these two. He’s done it naturally and slowly over time, like how it would happen in reality. Natsu didn’t even start being clingy towards Lucy until over 50 episodes in.

All the ships are clearly defined in Fairy Tail and I love it that way. There’s so many canon ships, there’s a ship type for everyone! Of course, Nalu is the fan favorite. My husband actually likes Gajeel and Levy. I have a sister in law who likes the idea of Gray and Lucy, but she doesn’t mind Nalu either. She just likes Gray more. Gray’s okay. Lol I don’t want his character gone but I don’t leap for joy and get excited when I see him like I do with Natsu.

I can’t express how fantastic I think Fairy Tail is. I wish it was bigger in America but anime in general isn’t big in America. It’s bigger than it used to be and you can usually find comic shops with plenty of anime and manga merchandise in them, but I mostly see Naruto, One Piece, and Dragon Ball. I haven’t been able to do any manga or anime shopping recently at my favorite comic book shop so they may have more merchandise now. Last time I went (a year ago), they were starting to get more merchandise which was nice to see. They also finally had more manga volumes. For a while I could only find the volumes at Barnes and Noble. Thankfully they were the same price but I prefer to support the local business owner of my comic shop than a big franchise store. Fairy Tail is big in Japan, I do hear that a lot. The movie that just came out was selling out the special addition programs and they’re incredibly hard to find they sell out so fast. I can’t wait to go to Japan and check out the Fairy Tail merch in Akihabara! I will be streaming that live when we finally get to do that!

Any of you watch Fairy Tail? What do you think of it? Do you have a favorite character or guild? Let me know! I love meeting other Fairy Tail fans and discussing it!

Our Entertainment Tastes

I think I should discuss just what type of anime I watch so you know what reviews you could expect to appear on our blog. My husband has slightly different tastes so he will post later about what he prefers.

The type of anime I usually favor must have fantasy, some kind of romance, adventure, ecchi, and at least some fan service. It’s not the only type I watch, but an anime with those elements is highly likely to catch my interest.  I like an even amount of dialogue and action. Too much action can get boring and so can too much dialogue (unless it’s a slice of life). My favorite anime tend to have two main characters, one male and female working together. I also love good strong friendships within an anime. An anime has to pull me in with characters I can relate to and who bond with each other through out the series. It makes a moment of drama that much more powerful.

That doesn’t mean it’s the only type of anime I watch, however. There are a few that are a bit off the beaten path of my usual viewing. Attack on Titan is a big one. It’s definitely not a genre I watch hardly at all but this one was a rare that pulled me in. There’s also a few slice of life anime I happen to like and my most favorite right now is Masamune-Kun’s Revenge. OMG. You need to watch it if you haven’t. I adore Masamune. He’s a bit narcissistic but it’s adorable. I am open to watching anime out of my usual comfort zone but there is one thing I always must have and that’s a happy ending. I like my happy endings damn it. When I finish an anime, I wanna be crying tears of happiness! Not really, but you get where I’m going with this.

Now I should mention what kind of characters I tend to favor in any anime I watch. Most of the time he will have either all or at least one of these qualities: Hot temper, pervert, intelligent, introvert, skilled fighter and confident. Character’s that are my absolute favorites have these traits. Natsu of Fairy Tail, Meliodas of The Seven Deadly Sins, Vash from Trigun, Ed from Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, etc. I mentioned I’m playing Persona 5, so feel free to comment which character you think is probably my favorite. LOL

When I’m watching an anime, there’s categories I personally grade them on.

  1. The story
  2. Character depth (1 dimensional vs multi-dimensional)
  3. Setting
  4. Animation quality
  5. Art style
  6. Soundtrack
  7. Intros and outros
  8. Fillers….ugh. Fillers.

The same goes for the manga genres I read. I do not read slice of life mangas though. I prefer those in animes only. I am currently reading Fairy Tail, The Seven Deadly Sins, Boruto, and Noragami (although that one hasn’t updated in months -_-). When I catch up with Gintama, I might pick up the manga but Im going to cheat and start where the last episode or story arc ended. Lol If you think I might miss something substantial by doing that, please let me know and I’ll just read the whole thing. I really love the characters and the story, so I definitely don’t want to miss anything important!

I do not read any American comics. I read some Spider-man several years ago and watched Superman, Batman, and Spiderman cartoons but that’s about it. My favorite super hero IS Superman though. I do love my Superman. There’s more to that story, but I’ll talk about that some other time. I do still watch some of the DC animations since they’re pretty decent but don’t ask me to remember any of it. LOL This would be my husband Cameron’s expertise. He knows a lot more about Marvel and DC than I do! When it comes to movies however, I do watch Marvel and DC movies. I have been very displeased with the DC movies, however (don’t even get me started on Man of Steel. I get mad just thinking about it). Marvel has been nailing it of course. Deadpool was awesome and so has every other Marvel movie out there. I’d say Deadpool, Guardians of the Galaxy, The Avenger Movies, and Ant-Man are my favorite ones so far. I look forward to Deadpool 2 and Volume 2 of GOTG. Thor Ragnorok looks absolutely amazing. There’s just so many awesome Marvel movies coming out! I can’t wait to discuss trailers and review the movies once we’ve seen them!

Although anime tends to be the majority of my viewing, there’s plenty other things I watch and like. There’s no particular genre I go for. It either entertains me or it doesn’t. I’m not as judgmental with movies unless it’s based off a novel I’ve read (*cough* twilight *cough*). God knows I could talk forever about the Harry Potter movies (I own them all!). Which reminds me, I did recently watch Fantastic Beasts so I think I’ll definitely give some kind of review on my thoughts on that.

I kind of strayed off anime but I thought I should throw in what else we watch and read! We look forward to giving you more content to enjoy! We recently set up our MyPatreon page to help get our business funded so please be sure to check that out and share! We can use all the support we can get it!
